End of Year Meeting Recap.

Well, we wrapped up another great year at the Guild, and based on this last meeting, I think we are headed into an even greater year ahead! If you weren't able to make the meeting, there was a lot going on, so here is what you missed!

We started the meeting by holding elections for next year's officers. First, we'd like to thank everyone for their service this past year. And a HUGE thanks and round of applause for Mary, who has served as our fearless leader for the past three years. The newly elected board is as follows:

President: Kim Soper
Vice President: Mary Crisafulli
Treasurer: Elise SanSouci
Secretary: Lorraine Lucas
Programming: Carol Krottendorfer
Hospitality: Madelyn Ratkus
Marketing/Communications: Karen Wooley

Once the new board was ratified, the announcements came atcha fast! Even if you attended the meeting, there may be things you missed!

New Location: After weeks of searching and scouting locations, we have tentatively arranged to have meetings at the Art League of Long Island located conveniently off of the Northern State Parkway in Dix Hills. We have also arranged to host sew-ins at the Knights of Columbus off of Pulaski Road in East Northport. Unfortunately, both locations were only available on Wednesdays, which was not ideal for our membership. Thus we are still waiting to hear if the Art League can make itself available on Tuesdays. We will keep you posted. We are sorry for any inconvenience -- this has been a difficult process given our limited funds and desire to keep some room in the budget for great speakers and programs. We expect to have a set location by the end of this week.

Committees: We are looking to build a stronger sense of community and foster greater participation amongst our members so that we can grow the Guild and offer an even greater experience. We are still looking for help on our programming committee and would love any and all input you have to offer over the summer to help make this next year our  best one yet!

Summer Sew-In/Quilts for Pulse: We are looking to have a summer sew-in (Tentative Date: July 28 we will keep you posted as to date and location once finalized) to make charity quilts for the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, FL. For more information about the charity quilt collection you can look here and here. If you signed up at the last meeting you will receive an email letting you know what you will need to bring to the sew-in and further instructions. If you are still interested in signing up, please contact Janet! There will be a $5 fee/person to attend the sew-in. Please feel free to bring a friend or two, the more the merrier!

Shop Hop: This summer we will be marketing the guild at the Long Island Shop Hop. Pieceful Quilting has been generous enough to allow us space for a table to hand out brochures, inform people of our mission and hopefully grow our membership! We are asking that all members volunteer to staff the table for at least an hour or two during one of the shop hop days. The table will need staffing from 10-6 on Thursday, August 11; 10--5 on Friday, August 12; and 10-5 on Saturday, August 13. If you have not already signed up for a time, please email us at contactLIMOD@gmail.com to let us know when you will be available.

Medallion Swap:  We swapped medallion centers, and everyone is excited to bring their selected center back to the September meeting with an addition of a 10 inch border all the way around. (It is up to you how you add this 10 inch border: a full 10 inches, a combination of two borders that total 10 inches, etc. Medallion centers will return 20 inches larger than they started!). We will continue to swap each month until December when we reveal the final quilts and vote on our favorite! The best one will become a raffle quilt with the intention of raising funds for the guild. The rest will be donated to a charity we will select at a future date.

june meeting.

Can you believe it?! Another guild year is coming to an end, and that means it's time to PARTY! But before we can celebrate, we have some business to attend to:

Here's what's in store for the next meeting:

  1. Discussion -- we want to hear from you! What are some things you are looking for in the guild next year? We have some exciting ideas, but will need help from you to make it happen! We are looking to increase member involvement to make the guild better for everyone! Let's chat about how we are going to put our plans into action!
  2. Elections -- it's time to vote for new board positions!
  3. Swap --  everyone should bring their medallion centers for next year's medallion swap. The center block should be:
    • a MINIMUM size of 12.5" x 12.5" AND
    • preferably made in the modern aesthetic.
      • Here's how the swap is going to work: everyone that participates will receive ANOTHER MEMBER's medallion to take home over the summer. Over the summer you will have to add a 10" border to the center block. You can add one giant border, or smaller borders that IN TOTAL equal 10". We will then swap again at the September meeting. This will continue until we have significant-sized quilt tops that we can hopefully donate to charity AND **possibly** raffle off to raise money for the guild!
      • We will explain this in detail at the meeting, but this is to give you an idea of the process.
  4. Snacks -- by now you know, we can't have a party without party food! So please bring a drink or a snack to share!
  5. Dues Discount -- if you would like to save on membership fees for next year, we are accepting early-bird membership at a discounted price of $40/year. If you wait until September, dues will be $50.
  6. Prizes --  we are bringing back door prizes! Get a chance to win by signing in, and earn EXTRA chances to win by bringing a BOM or show and share.
  7. Show and Share -- so now you know, earn an extra chance to win a prize when you bring something to share with the group! We are especially excited to see any progress on your skill-builder BOMs.  Annnnnnd last but not least,
  8. Destash Raffle -- one of the ways we raise additional funds for the guild to have great speakers (and hopefully even more events next year) is through the raffle. Please consider purchasing a ticket for the last basket of the year!
We have a great year to celebrate and an exciting year to plan! Hope to see you at Pieceful Quilting on the 21st!
