Hello Long Island modern quilters,
Our next meeting is on Tuesday, April 15th. On this meeting we will be making Quilt Bingo Cards. Please bring enough fabric to create a card for yourself and maybe some fabric to swap and share with your fellow guild members. Ironing station will be set up and we will also provide cutting mats. Please bring you machine, your fabric, an extension cord and a basic sewing supplies needed to finish the block.
The idea for Fabric Bingo came from the September/October 2006 issue of Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting magazine. Getting your card ready will be as much fun as playing the game, since you will get to play in your stash. While you are working on projects between now and Tuesday, cut some 2 1/2" squares to use in your card. Make sure to stick to the categories listed in the directions.
Fabric Bingo Card Instructions
Please read all the instructions before you cut your fabric!
You will need 25 squares of fabric measuring 2 1/2". Choose your fabric from the following categories: batik, dots, florals, geometrics, hearts, leaf prints, metallic, holiday, novelty, paisley, plaid, solids or tone on tone, stars, stripes and 1930s prints. Your completed bingo card will be a 25 patch - 5 rows of 5 squares each. The fabrics should be in the following colors - yellow/orange, red, blue, green, and pink/purple. You will also need one square of black fabric.
When cutting out your squares, be sure to use fabrics from the categories listed above. You do not have to use all the categories, but try to have an assortment. It is important to use five different categories in each color row.
As you are joining the squares, please use an accurate 1/4" seam allowance.
1. Join five 2 1/2" squares of assorted yellow/orange prints to form a row.
2. Join five 2 1/2" squares of assorted red prints to form a row.
3. Join five 2 1/2" squares of assorted blue prints to form a row.
4. Join five 2 1/2" squares of assorted yellow/green prints to form a row.
5. Join four 2 1/2" squares of assorted pink/purple prints into two pairs. Sew one of the pairs to one side of a black square, and other pair to the opposite side of the black square to form a row.
6. You now have five rows of five squares each. Join the rows to form 5X5 square. Join the rows in whatever order you wish as long AS LONG AS the pink/purple row is in the middle, the third row. In other words, the black square needs to be in the middle of the card.
