september meeting recap.

The 2015-2016 LIMOD Year is off to a great start! Everyone's improv projects were so unique and really fantastic! If you were unable to make the meeting, here's what you missed:

We started the meeting with a short film "Made in Japan" which detailed the process of how fabric is made. If you would like to see it (and it's definitely worth the watch) you can find the film on the Cotton and Steel website here.

We swapped improv projects! The photos don't necessarily do these fabulous pieces justice, but they will give you a hint of what we shared:

Julie's bag for Kim

Judy's table runner for Julie

Laurie made a bunting. . .

. . . and a bulletin board for Carol

Carol's tote for Lisa

Lisa's cheerful table runner

Lorraine received a gorgeous quilt!!

And Lorraine made this fantastic clutch for Laurie

Stella got this awesome sewing machine mini from Elise

And Madelyn received this cute improv pouch
Irene made a whole collection of improv pieced coasters

Suzi made a stunning art quilt for Angie

And Angie made this awesome Kaffe sewing machine cover for Suzi.
Elise received a great table runner made with improv pieced rainbow starflowers

and here's Victoria holding up her tote from Marie
So much fun! Everyone really enjoyed working in the improv style! And making a prize for someone else -- though a little stressful (especially when using their fabric!) -- is also super rewarding!

Lorraine was the only member to take on the Generation Q block challenge, and she did an awesome job of constructing a difficult block!

We also had show and share, which can be found on the new Gallery Page. (See the tab in the header above). Show and share pics can also be found on our Instagram account, so hopefully you are following along there!

Carol introduced the new Skill Builder Block of the Month. We've created a tab on the heading of this website "2015 Block of the Month" so you can access instructions easily.

And finally, Carol was the winner of the first destash raffle. We didn't get a shot of her with all of her winnings, but this will give you the idea, since Carol has been one lucky lady lately!

Great meeting, ladies! See you in October!

september meeting.

The September meeting is less than a week away! Can you feel the excitement in the air? We have a lot of fun things planned for our first get-together of the new guild year. Here's what's on the agenda for Tuesday night:

  • Improv Scrap Swap: it's time to swap improv projects with your partners! Last time we had a swap it was a lot of fun, and we are looking forward to seeing all of the great ideas you had for each other's scraps!
    • If you are unable to make the meeting, please try to give your project to a friend to bring to the meeting. Or drop your project off at Pieceful Quilting ahead of time. We would like everyone who participated to have the experience of receiving a swap project at the meeting!
  • Short Film: Have you ever thought about how all of that glorious fabric sitting in your stash was made? This interesting short film will shed some light on the topic "How Fabric is Made."
  • Membership Renewal: It's the start of a new year. That means registration fees are due. The fee for this year will be $50 (a bit higher than years past). The goal is to bring you great speakers, quality programming and better events with the additional funds.
  • Skill Builder BOM: This year's Block of the Month will be geared toward building skills. You will learn new techniques; modern concepts for creating your own "grid" design; how to reduce and enlarge a block pattern; and have a lot of fun!
  • Generation Q Magazine Block Challenge: Did you work on your Generation Q block? You remember. . . the winner from our block-design contest during our last meeting? Bring us your blocks (if you made one), and we will collect the blocks to make a quilt for charity!
  • Show and Share: What have you been up to this summer? Please bring projects to share, big and small.
  • Raffle: Each month, one member will destash for a good cause - LIMOD! Raffle tickets will be 1/$1 or 6/$5. All proceeds collected will go toward making the guild better and brighter! Bring some spare change and you could walk out a winner. Remember: One Gal's De-stash Is Another Gal's Treasure!
Can't wait to see you on Tuesday! We've missed you!

june meeting recap

Our end of the year meeting was a lot of fun, and a huge success! Not only did we share our scraps for our summer improv swap, but we raised $75 to dedicate toward great speakers and events for next year!

If you weren't able to attend, here's what you missed:

  • Everyone that attended the June meeting participated in a fun activity designing our own blocks using Generation Q Magazine's Block Builder. Below is the winning group's design, which we all are going to try to recreate over the summer! If you decide to participate, an unfinished block should measure 12.5", and can be made of whatever modern fabrics you choose. In September, hopefully we will have enough blocks for a large charity quilt, or a few smaller quilts.

  • There were some lovely show and shares:

  • And the winners of our raffle were Kim Soper and Carol Krottendorfer!
That's it for this year, but that doesn't mean we won't have things to share over the summer! Make sure to check back, as we plan to update the blog from time to time. Also, be sure to share what you are working on this summer by using the #LIMOD hashtag and tagging @limodqg on Instagram!

See you all in September! Have a safe and happy summer!

just a happy, scrappy reminder!

Hi Ladies,

Tuesday will be our last LIMOD meeting before the summer break! Before you trade in your rotary cutter for a bikini, we have a party to throw!
  • Please remember to bring a QUART-sized bag (the one you can bring in your carry-on luggage) filled with lots of scraps for our improv secret summer scrap swap. (try to say that 10 times fast!). Please put a piece of paper with your name on it INSIDE of the bag. Over the summer, we will be making something using the scraps provided in the bag and whatever other fabrics we choose. What you make is up to you, as long as you use the improv method. In September, you will exchange gifts with the person whose scraps you chose.
  • For some improv inspiration you can look here. And here. And here.
  • Please remember to bring a snack to share!
  • There will be games, raffles, prizes and more!
Looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday and celebrating a great year together!
