February Meeting Recap

What fun we had at the last meeting!  So many Show and Shares proves that are members are very talented and loving the quilt making process.






























ANTIQUE QUILTS FROM 1800'S

Collen brought some very old quilts that she found in one of her relatives house.  These quilts were made by women in the middle of the 19th century, probably around 1845.  Thank you for sharing apart of quilt history!

Member Spotlight

Suzi demonstrated how to make a pineapple block using Creative Grids Pineapple trim tool ruler.


 









Carol demonstrated the slide-and-insert technique that Jacquie Gering has used to make some of her quilts. Check out a pattern using this technique: Fresh Cut Quilt by J. Gering & K. Pedersen

 



Mario gave a talk about Grain Direction.  Mario states: Grain of fabric matters greatly when making a garment but is not always discussed when cutting fabric pieces for a quilt.

ORPHAN QUILT BLOCK EXCHANGE



We had such fun playing Yankee Swap with orphan quilt blocks. There was a bit of "stealing" that took place, but everyone went home with a block that they can create a project with!

Amy introduced our next challenge: Long Island Modern Quilt Unfinished Project (UFO) Challenge
This challenge will give you an incentive to finished those projects that have been lingering in your sewing space for ages...
Bring your UFO's to our next meeting.  Register the projects with Amy, ( $2.00 registration fee per UFO), show the guild your project, take it home finish it, and bring it in no later then June's guild meeting. For every UFO you finish, you get a chance to win a great prize!  The more projects you register and finish, the more chances you have to win.
