MiniQuilt Raffle @ Shop Hop and Sewcial for Pulse Update

The LIMGQ  booth at the Long Island Shop Hop at Pieceful Quilting was a success.  We were able to introduce our Modern Quilt Guild to the Shop Hoppers, some of which did not know what a modern quilt guild was.
We distributed our newly designed brochure to the Shop Hoppers to help explain a "modern" quilt guild.  We listed the benefits of joining the guild as well as all of our contact information. We hope that the brochure will generate awareness of our guild and to encourage new memberships!

LIMGQ member Lorraine Lucas' daughter, Lauren, was instrumental in creating and designing the colorful brochure.  She also designed our fantastic new guild Logo.  Check it out on the top of this blog!  Thank you so much Lauren!

We would like to thank everyone who bought mini-quilt raffle tickets.

Congratulations to our winners:

Sew In:  Quilts for Pulse Update

Kim was able to gather up all the extra quilt blocks (about 20!) that we made at the Sew In in July and send them off to Orlando MQG along with a pieced top.
We have two finished quilts that will be sent along shortly. Pictures to follow!

Our next LIMGQ meeting is schedule for September 21 @ Art League of Long  in Dix Hills, NY. Meeting is from 7:30-9:30 pm.
See you there!

LIMQG @ Long Island Shop Hop

The Long Island Modern Quilt Guild will be hosting a booth at Pieceful Quilting in East Northport during the Hop Back Shop Hop taking place next weekend, August 11-13, 2016 from 10:00 AM-6:00 PM.

We are participating in the Shop Hop to raise awareness of our guild and all that we have to offer.  We are encouraging new members to sign up or just join a email list to get our monthly blog updates.

We are in need of volunteers to man the booth during the Shop Hop.  If you can spare an hour or two, please email and let us know which day & time works best for you.

At the booth, we will showcase several mini-quilts that were made by our board members.  The mini-quilts are an example of a modern quilt challenge.  The board members were given a just few criteria to create the challenge:

  1. A list of 8 fabrics plus a neutral fabric in cream or grey
  2. Size of quilt: no smaller than 12" x 12", no larger then 18"x 18"

These quilts will be raffled off during the Shop Hop to raise money to support our Guild.

We encourage all of you to stop by to say "Hello" and purchase a few raffle tickets to show your support!

We are hopeful that the Shop Hop will be a successful event that will encourage new members to join our guild as well as showcase the talent of our current members.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful summer!

Sew in for Charity: Quilts for Pulse

Our first Sew-In was a huge success! We had a great time sewing 10" heart blocks in various colors for the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild's #quiltsforpulse.  We had plenty of yellow, red, and purple heart blocks but were running short on blue, orange and green. No worries, we quickly pieced together blocks in the colors we needed and started to "design" our quilt tops.  We had enough blocks to make 3 quilt tops.  Karen and Mary will turn two of the quilt tops into finished quilts thanks to the generous donation of batting, backing and binding! The third quilt top, along with the extra 10" heart blocks, will be sent to the Orlando MQG separately.  They will be used by the OMQG in combination with other donated blocks to create even more quilts!
Thanks to all you volunteered for the event, you made it a HUGE success!

We created a few rainbow colored heart blocks to add interest to the quilt tops.
